A customer was struggling to find a new site candidate for development. The designated search area had been searched a number of times – initially via desktop analysis and then through a physical search of the area – conducted by technical planners, acquisition and planning professionals. Every time an option was identified and assessed, an issue would arise from technical, acquisition or design resulting in an aborted candidate and additional search activity.
Objectives
Analyse the designated search area De-risk the search process through geomatics Collaborate with multiple disclipines to understand the issues Identify suitable candidates.
Conduct design feasibility Solution
Digital Asset Solutions used a number of data sets to assess the designated search area. The data sets were loaded into a GIS platform to create a simple visual representation. Data included terrain height, clutter height, planning designations, land boundaries and ownership information, existing infrastructure, white list and black list portfolios and panoramic surveys.
This digital search report was then curated and shared with technical, acquisition and design to identify suitable candidates with a greater degree of certainty. Once identified, a number of candidates were captured for design feasibility using digital twins. A remote MSV (rMSV) concluded with a viable candidate and site design.
Benefits
- The digital search report gives technical, acquisition, planning and design a better understanding of the designated search area and reduces risk through geomatics.
- Collaboration allows multiple disciplines to work together to understand and overcome challenges, avoiding iteration, delay and cost.
- The customer benefits from enhanced ESG credentials as the requirement for multiple disciplines to conduct surveys is avoided.
